President’s Message for July 2017

Wow! June was a great meeting and we all enjoyed listening to Darrel Johnson with Far Corners Sportfishing passing on his tips on catching tuna off Westport. I can’t wait for tuna season to start this month.

Our July meeting will be all about salmon. We will be conducting a round robin on nothing but salmon fishing tips that will be very useful fishing in the ocean and the sound. You don’t want to miss this one as you will not get information like this from top salmon anglers on what really works anywhere else.

The GHPSA Salmon Derby is set for 12 August and we have lots of great prizes donated this year for the event. There will be a weigh station at Pt. Defiance and at Narrows Marina this year. The prizes and cook out will be held at Tacoma Bass Pro. Derby Tickets are on sale now at various locations and at our July club meeting. Larry Bucklin is our Derby Chairman and will be running the event this year. He looking for a few volunteers to work the weigh stations on derby day.

We have instituted a raffle for all club members who work an event.  If you volunteer to work at one of our support events, Bass Pro, Aug. Salmon Derby, Picnic or Christmas party you name will go in for a drawing for a guided fishing trip for two. If you already worked a Bass Pro event your name is in the raffle already. The drawing will be held at the Christmas party in Dec.

Frank Auman membership number was drawn and he missed out on the Southworth Marine membership drawing for $260.00. The July drawing will be $370.00.

Once again the meeting starts at 7PM on 12 July but I encourage members to come early and join us at 6PM in the Uncle Bucks restaurant for dinner and to share fishing reports.

See you all there.

John Keizer
