At our Oct. 11th chapter meeting Josh Hughes and Nate Alvord representatives for Scotty Downriggers gave a presentation on the difference in Scotty Downrigger models, their features, how to care for and operate. They also discussed some of the components that may need replacing depending on how much use the downrigger gets used and advised keeping some basic repair components on hand just in case one goes bad which could ruin a fishing trip. There are also many professional repair centers throughout Puget Sound and the Straits, our local repair center is SPORTCO in Fife WA.

President’s Message October 2023

Presidents message from Gig Harbor PSA for October 2023

President:  Art Tachell

Our guest speaker for our September 13th general club meeting was Duane Inglin of Fish Hunt Northwest and he gave a fantastic presentation in detail on fishing for Coho in Grays Harbor.

This fishery opens September 15th and provides a great shallow water opportunity to catch some quality Coho.

Our speaker for our October 11th general meeting will be a representative from Scotty Downriggers and Products. He or she will discuss maintenance, repairs, new products and how to get the best performance from their products.

The club member that was drawn during our membership cash drawing was not present so next month’s drawing will be $260.00. We would like to once again thank John Hagar of Southworth and Lighthouse Marine for sponsoring the drawing.

Our club activity for September was a club Coho derby which was one by Pete Pittman with a 7.87lb. Coho congratulations Pete. It was a gorgeous day on the water, and I do believe all entrants had their limits of Coho.

Our next project partnering with the Auburn chapter will be nutrient enhancement in the upper watershed of the Puyallup River by placing spawned carcasses of chinook and coho salmon from Voights Creek Hatchery into the feeder streams. This is a great opportunity to see wildlife like deer, elk, bear and great views. This project will be every Wednesday for the next six weeks if you would like to get involved call Art Tachell 253-691-0811 for more info.

The club delivered 440 lbs. of surplus fish food to the Puyallup Historical Hatchery.

Founding member Mark Connot”s estate donated fishing gear to be sold at our annual swap meet to benefit the club.

Member Dave Morgan passed recently and will be greatly missed.

Our general club meeting is the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00PM and is located at Tower Lanes 6323 6th Ave. Tacoma, Wash.

All are welcome to attend our club meetings so if you are interested, please come out.
