Presidents Message May 2023
Gig Harbor Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers
The Science and Math Institute ( a Tacoma Public High School ) located in Pt. Defiance Park in Tacoma Wa. gave the club members at our April 12th general meeting a presentation on the many science and cultural projects related to our Saltwater Acclimation pens for Chinook salmon at Pt. Defiance Marina.
Club volunteers once again did a great job putting the initial pen together, installed at location and mounted fish nets and predator nets in time to receive about 70,000 Chinook smolt which the Puyallup Tribe provided all clipped and Coded Wire Tagged unique to our location.
Around the end of April we will have another pen put together and installed to receive about 50,000 additional Chinook smolt all clipped and Coded Wire Tagged in the same location.
If anyone is interested in feeding our salmon just go on the Gig Harbor Chapter site and click on the link for feeding fish then it will take you to the calendars and just input your name.
Our March outing was a club salmon derby held in MA13, the weather was great and fun was had by all, the winner take all derby was won by new member Don Lillegard with a 11lb.14oz Blackmouth.
Our club event/outing’s for the next two months will be the care of our Chinook Smolt at the Pt. Defiance Marina.
