GIG HARBOR PUGET SOUND ANGLERS PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE August 2019
August meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Tower Lanes in Tacoma (6323 – 6th Avenue – Tacoma, WA 98406). Capt. John Keizer will be our guest speaker for the meeting doing a presentation on derby prep for our upcoming salmon derby on August 10. Come join us for this presentation so we all learn the secrets needed to win the derby. I would like to thank Eric Kinne Hatchery Manager from WDFW for his presentation on the status of the state hatcheries. Also we would like to thank all of the skippers and volunteers that helped make our Cast for Kids event a success on July 13. A big thank you goes to Leroy Bell for stepping up and taking charge of the Cast for Kids event.
Steve Casper member #251 was drawn for the membership drawing and was not present. The August drawing will be for $260. Thanks to John Hager of Southworth Marine for his support. The drawing is open to all current, paid members and members must be present to win.
Our annual Gig Harbor chapter salmon derby is scheduled for August 10 for A11 & A13. The derby will be sponsored by King Salmon Marine this year. One of the donated items this year is a trip to Fish Baranof in Sitka, Alaska (www.fishbaranof.com). We will have numerous other prizes and donated items for this year’s event. The weigh-in station and award ceremony this year will be at Pt. Defiance Marina. Tickets are available for purchase at Pt. Defiance Marina, Sportco, Narrows Marina, King Salmon Marine and ACE hardware in Gig Harbor. Adult tickets are $35 and youth tickets are free. Derby rules are posted on our website: (http/gigharborpsa.org/).
There are numerous opportunities for members to volunteer to help with promoting the club at our events. All members who volunteer over the course of the year will have their names entered into a special drawing for a Scotty Downrigger at our Christmas party in December 2019.
Please feel free to contact me or any board member with any questions or comments.
