June’s President’s Message

Thanks to all who attended last month’s meeting.  Robert Christian gave a talk on Crabbing Puget Sound.  The opener is July 1st.  Steve Ng was manning the fish talk table with the how to’s of crabbing.  It was reported that the tribal pots are out in all the good spots so we may have to get a bit creative this season.

Tom Pollack is our July speaker.  His mooching presentation is one you will definitely want to hear.  Tom has fished the local waters and beyond for over half a century.  For those of you who don’t know Tom, please drop by and introduce yourself.  When he is not helping customers at Sportco, you can find him out on the water doing what he loves to do.

Michael Brazeau will be at the fish talk table speaking about what’s happening at Westport.  It’s a great fishery, but safety is number one.  Michael will give us some insight on bar crossing and weather observations, along with what’s working.  Several of our members have their boats and campers there already.

June’s outing is at Westport on the 22th.

July 20th is the C.A.S.T for Kids boating event on Puget Sound.  We still need volunteers with boats.  See Doug Dixon to sign up.

August 10th is our salmon derby.  Check with Jeff Zuniga if you aren’t going to fish and would like to volunteer.  All club members should purchase tickets and attend the awards ceremony.  Lots of great prizes will be raffled off.  We have over 50 sponsors so far, and that number is still growing.  Thanks to Titus-Will, Columbia Bank, and Southworth Marine for cash prize awards for largest fish.  Get online and check out the new flyer on our website for all the details.

September 7th annual picnic at Titlow beach.  Food and fun for all!  Don’t miss out!

Our annual garage sell was last month and a big thanks to Frank Bidwell for donating his proceeds back to the club.

We had three new members join our club:  Jeffery Goodwin, Tom Fox, and Frank Bergstrom / Cher Morgan.  Welcome aboard!  Frank and Cher own Frankie B’s tackle and we appreciate their donation to the raffle.  A big thanks to John Hager of Southworth Marine for sponsoring our monthly membership drawing.

Our monthly member drawing was won by new member Sean Nepper.  Sean also had the largest kokanee and received a custom rod built by Tony Dobson of Snatchin Lips Custom Rods.  Thanks Tony!

Hope to see you all at next month’s meeting.  Come have a hot dog, mingle and support our wonderful club.

Again, Thank you!

May President’s Message

Our May 14th meeting started with our Annual spaghetti feed. We had lots of good stuff for all who attended. A big thank-you to John Drew the kitchen crew and those  who purchased tickets and enjoyed a great meal.

The theme of the evening was Kokanee fishing. Our own member Tony Dobson gave an informative presentation on the fishery. John Keizer was at the fish talk table with lots of Kokanee tackle to inspect. Those who participated in the raffle won Kokanee specific rods, reels and tackle packs. Thanks to all!

Saturday May 18th was our Annual Kokanee Derby on America Lake. Around 20 participants’s enjoyed “ok” weather and “ok” fishing. Fish were scattered anywhere from 10’ to 50’ down. The winners will be announced at the June 11th meeting and prizes will be awarded for biggest Kokanee and biggest Trout. Tony Dobson of Snatchin Lips Custom Rods has donated one of his creations for the winner of the biggest Kokanee.

Robert Christian is our June speaker talking about crabbing in the Puget Sound. Steve NG will be at our Fish talk table.

Don’t forget that June’s meeting is also our annual Garage Sale, which starts at 5:00 P.M, with General meeting to follow at 7:00 P.M.

We had two new members sign up at our last meeting. We would like to give a big welcome Joe Tabisz and Bob Watts. Bob Walter was present and won the membership drawing. Thank you to John Hager of Southworth Marine for his monthly donations to the drawing.

Our Cast for Kids event is coming right up – July 20th. We are still needing volunteers to take handicapped kids out in Puget Sound for a once in a lifetime opportunity for both them and you as their Captain. It’s a very rewarding experience.  If you’ve never particated in this event make this year! Contact Doug Dixon or Rich Silva.

Looking ahead, Tom Pollack is our July speaker on mooching and August 10th is our Annual Salmon Derby. Would like to remind everyone to please read Derby rules carefully as they will be enforced.

Thanks to all who volunteer and participate.
