ANGLERS PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE July 2019
July’s meeting will be
held on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Tower Lanes in Tacoma (6323
– 6th Avenue – Tacoma, WA 98406). Jim Jenkins will be our guest speaker for the
meeting doing a presentation on the State of Washington Hatcheries. We would like to give a special thanks to
Tommy Donlin for his June presentation on Ocean Salmon Fishing and filling in
for Duane Inglin.

was drawn for the membership drawing and was present. July drawing will be for
$150. Thanks to John Hager of Southworth Marine for his support. The drawing is open to all current, paid
members and members must be present to win.
The
Gig Harbor chapter has been involved with helping NW Salmon Research in raising
30+k Chinook. The smolts were released Thursday morning, June 13 at 3:00 AM and
all have left the pen. The Chinook gained over 1,000 pounds in the Net-Pen.
Average weight when the fish were placed in the pen was 150 fish per pound, when
they were released the fish weighed 23.9 fish per pound.
Our annual Gig Harbor
chapter salmon derby is scheduled for August 10 at Pt. Defiance Marina. The
derby will be sponsored by King Salmon Marine this year. One of the donated
items this year is a trip to Fish Baranof in Sitka, Alaska (www.fishbaranof.com).
We will have numerous other prizes and donated items for this year’s
event. The award ceremony this year will
be held at Pt. Defiance Marina. Tickets will available for purchase at the end
of June at Pt. Defiance Marina, Sportco, Narrows Marina and ACE hardware in Gig
Harbor.
There are numerous
opportunities for members to volunteer to help with promoting the club at our
events. We are looking for volunteers for the August Fishing Derby. We need a
weigh-in chairman and volunteers for the weigh-in station at Pt. Defiance. We
will also need volunteers for the food tent and general setup and cleanup
support. Signup sheets will be available at the July meeting or by contacting
one of the board members. All members
who volunteer over the course of the year will have their names entered into a
special drawing for a great prize at our Christmas party in December 2019.
