Happy May everyone! I would like to express my gratitude to all the volunteers who helped organize last month’s clam and spaghetti dinner.

Our speaker for this month’s general meeting is Father Son Fishing, a local tackle company from Lacey. The meeting will take place on May 8th at 7 pm at Tower Lanes, located at 6323 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406.

Don’t forget that this month’s membership drawing will be for $370. To be eligible, you must be a member in good standing and present at the meeting.

On May 4th, the Club will have a table at the Point Defiance Swap meet. If you have any items that you would like to donate to the club, please let us know.

Our board meeting for May will be held at Ben Dew’s Club House on May 7th at 6 pm. The address is 6501 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406.

We are excited to announce that our Annual 28th Salmon Derby will take place on August 3rd. We are still looking for sponsors and volunteers to help us put on this event. If you are interested in helping in any way, please reach out to any club office.

Lastly, we would like to start thinking about new officers for next year. If you are interested in becoming a club officer, please talk to any of the board members.

Gig Harbor PSA President 2024

With the advent of spring, the anticipation and excitement for the upcoming fishing opportunities begin to mount. From the freshwater opener that’s scheduled later in the month, to shrimping, halibut, and bottom fishing, it’s time to shake off the winter rust, dust off the gear, and get back on the water.
The April meeting will be a clam and spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, April 10th, at the VFW Hall located at 4741 North Baltimore Street. The dinner will start at 6 pm, and it promises to be a wonderful evening full of delicious food, great conversations, and fantastic company. Please note that tickets must be purchased by April 1st on the club’s website www.gigharborpsa.org, and no tickets will be sold at the door.

We would like to thank Gabe Miller and Art Tachell for stepping up and sharing their expertise on the North of Falcon process at our March meeting. Their contributions were invaluable, and we appreciate their efforts.

As of our March meeting, we currently have 73 paid members. We are excited to announce that our next membership drawing, sponsored by John Haggard of Southworth Marine, will be for a whopping $370. So, don’t forget to renew your membership to be eligible for the drawing.

As we gear up for this summer’s upcoming salmon derby, we are still looking for donations to make it a success. If you would like to contribute, please let one of the board members know. Additionally, we need volunteers to help with the derby, which is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the proceeds help to fund the club for the next year.

We would like to remind everyone that our board meeting is held on the first Tuesday of every month at Ben Dews Clubhouse located at 6501 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406. The meeting starts at 6 pm, and it’s a great opportunity to get involved and have your voice heard.

Our general meeting is on the second Wednesday of every month at Tower Lanes, located at 6323 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA 98406. The meeting starts at 7 pm, and it’s an excellent chance to catch up with fellow members, share stories, and learn about upcoming events.

The April meeting will be a clam and spaghetti dinner on Wednesday, April 10th, at the VFW Hall located at 4741 North Baltimore Street. No Tickets will be available at the door.

Wow this year is going fast! We are already in March. Our February Meeting had a great turn out for Bob Buchannan from Beau Mac Enterprises, who spoke on jigging for Salmon. Thanks, Bob, for the great presentation!

Our current paid membership is 60. #5 Mark Abetz was drawn but not present. Our March membership drawing sponsored by John Haggard of Southworth Marine will be $260. You must be a current paid member to be entered in the drawing. You must be present to win.

This month’s speaker will be Tom Nelson from the Outdoor Line. If you have never seen Tom give a presentation, you won’t want to miss the March 13^th meeting! Tom will be giving a presentation on downrigger techniques.  

On February 24^th we had our first outing of the year at Lake Washington for Cutthroat. The weather was a bit chilly, but we had eight boats come out. Fishing wasn’t hot, but most boats had a couple of fish.

Blackmouth season opens on March 1^st and Saturday March 2^nd will our Dick Smythe outing from daylight to 11:30 a.m. Weigh in is at Point Defiance Boathouse. It’s $10 per person and you must be a paid member to buy in. Winner takes all. (Must be a Blackmouth to weight in). Contact President Chris Tremblay if you want to participate. Your name must be on the list before the morning of Saturday, March 2.

April 10^th is our spaghetti and clam feed at the VFW hall at 4741 N Baltimore St, Tacoma, WA 98407. Dinner is $25 a person. The dinner is on our regular meeting night. You can pay at the meeting in March or on the Gig Harbor Puget Sound Anglers website: www.gigharborpsa.org. Must RSVP and pay by April 1^st.

We still need people to help with the upcoming summer derby. If you are willing to help, please talk to any board member. We also need to start thinking about next year’s officers. If you are interested in helping run the club, please talk to me at one of our board meetings or a general meeting.

President’s Message for February 2024:

I hope everyone had a great first month of the new year. As a reminder, last year’s dues expired on January 31st. If you haven’t renewed your membership yet, please do so at the next meeting. Also, note that the general meeting for this month will be held on Tuesday, February 13th, at 7 pm. The meeting will take place at Tower Lanes, which is located at 6323 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA.

Last month, Todd Girtz from Todd’s Extreme Fishing gave a great presentation on Big Lingcod and Halibut fishing. This month’s speaker will be Bob Buchanan from BeauMac.

Our first club outing of the year will be on February 24th at Lake Washington to fish for Cutthroat.

On March 2nd, we will hold our Dick Smythe outing for Black Mouth in Area 11. It is open only to club members, and the biggest fish wins the pot. The fee is $10 per person.

Our club’s Spaghetti and Clam Feed will take place on April 10th at the VFW located at 4741 N Baltimore St, Tacoma, WA. This is the same place where we had our 2023 Christmas Party.

We’re starting to plan our derby for 2024 and we will need volunteers to help put it together. Please remember that the club is run by volunteers and those who help make things go easier.

President’s Message January 2024

Happy New Year to everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and got to spend some quality time with your friends and family. As we start 2024, I would like to express my gratitude to the officers who served last year. Art Tachell and his officers did a fantastic job.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank the new officers for stepping up and volunteering to lead the club this year. The new officers include Vice President Donald Auman, Treasurer Ron Hunt, and Secretary Larry Bucklin.

Just a friendly reminder that your dues will expire on January 31st, and they are $40 per year. Please make sure to renew your membership on time.

Our speaker for January will be Todd Girtz, who is always fascinating. You won’t want to miss it!
