Puget Sound Anglers – Gig Harbor & Tacoma

On August 13 the Gig Harbor Chapter had their 21st Salmon Derby.This turned out to be another successful   derby.

Adam Hunt won 1st place with a 10.04lb Salmon. Darren Rose won 2nd with 17lbs 08oz, 3rd place was Derrick Cline 15.09lbs. Kathy Webster was our ladies winner with a 10.03 Salmon, Blake Combs won our youth prize with 5.09lbs.ant to thank Bob Watts our derby chairman, Thom Names who put in a lot of time helping out and Jeff Zuniga used his knowledge and help to put on a great derby. Bass Pro Shop who gave us the great covered area for our awards ceremony and bar-b-que. September is our picnic held on the 1st Saturday of September at Owens Beach. Our Septembers meeting we will have John Hagar from Southworth Marine on winterizing your boat and the effects of ethanol sitting in your engine over the winter.

Our meetings are open the the public and held at the Towers  Lanes on 6th Ave in Tacoma the 2nd Tuesday of every month, starting at 7pm.

July 12th we had our semi annual garage sale. Lots of fishing gear changed hands. It was very successful. Our August meeting we will have Captain John Keiser as our guest speaker discussing salmon fishing in Puget Sound. He will be helping anglers catch the winning fish for Puget Sound Anglers Gig Harbor Chapters 21st Annual Salmon Derby. We have always had a very successful derby. It was crazy this year not knowing weather we would have a fishing season at all. With the help of our board members this is turning out to be another great derby. We will have our awards and barbeque at the Bass Pro Shop in Tacoma. I want to thank the Bass Pro Shop for helping us to  give you a Great Derby.

All guest are welcome Tuesday August 9th. Our meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at the Towers Bowling Alley starting at 7pm all guests are welcome.

President’s Message from Bill Brengman:

We had our June meeting Tuesday June 14th. We discussed out Salmon Derby coming up in the second Saturday in August. This should be a good one. Our speaker was Mark Gavin from Pro Troll. Mark did a great talk about trolling for Salmon in the Columbia River. This was very interesting. We are having our garage sale in the July’s meeting. Our clubs meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. We have a fish report from the members and a speaker. All guests are welcome. Our meetings are held at the Towers Bowling Alley on 6th ave in Tacoma.

President’s Message from Bill Brengman:

Tuesday May 10th, the Gig Harbor chapter of the PSA had their monthly general meeting at the Towers Bowling Alley on 6 ave in Tacoma. While we had our business portion of the meeting we discussed the Salmon fishing in Puget Sound. It is amazing how the State can be held Hostage to a group who have found every grey area in the laws to cause the State Congress panic and fear going up against this group. The problem is they see the few dollars that goes into the hands of these few leaders and ignore the hundreds of thousands that go back into the tax base from recreational fishing. Thank goodness we have a WDFW Director that is willing to put the State first. Thank you Jim Unsworth.
Our Chapter will have 2 tables at the Pt. Defiance Swap Meet on May 21st. We will have lots of great fishing and boating gear on the tables.
Our speakers were Toni Pollock-Bozarth and Ron Hunt who had a great discussion on Kokanee fishing. Our meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of the month starting at the Towers Bowling alley on 6th Ave in Tacoma all guests are welcome.
