November President message
Club Members,
Summer was great while it was here, but now the rainy season and colder weather are here and are well underway. With it has come some snow in the mountains. I was out this past Wednesday morning and the Olympic mountains are in their full glory with a fresh covering of new snow.
The next major club activity scheduled is our annual Christmas Party on Friday, December 4th. Social hour & activities begin at 5:30 pm, with dinner at 6:30pm. Club member (and chef) Steve Ng, has again agreed to coordinate the food preparation. Hopefully he will again get his elves to help with food prep.
o The party will again be at the VFW Hall on 4741 N Baltimore St, Tacoma, WA.
o Sign up during the next club meeting or send me an email at: wmacaras@centurytel.net. Please include the number of guests and children attending.
o A-L please bring a desert, M-Z please bring a side dish.
o Activities during the party will include: Lucky fish award (form is available during the November meeting and on our Web page), Lure Christmas tree (bring a new lure, or two, to participate), Volunteer Award, Pot puller raffle, club member raffle, wives gifts, and more.
We did not have 2027 Board officer nominations during our October club meeting. During the November meeting, we will hold nominations and elections for the 2027 officers. If you are interested in volunteering for one of the positions, or if you want to nominate someone for one of the positions, please do so.
The Board has begun planning club activities for next year, so here are a few key dates for 2027. We will also have 2027 calendars available at the November club meeting and the Christmas party. February 6 – Puyallup Sportsman show; February 13 – Seattle Boat show; April 14 – clam and spaghetti dinner; August 7 – annual salmon derby; September 11 – club picnic at Titlow Park; September 18 – Club coho outing; December 3 – Christmas party. There will also be a club Blackmouth outing in April, subject to fishing seasons.
We have completed all the Nutrient enhancement outings for this year. I would like to thank Ted Martinez for his work coordinating the outings and working with hatchery staff to ensure everything went smoothly. I would also like to thank the many volunteers who donated their time to toss the thousands of fish. This program has proven to be very beneficial for the fish and wildlife of the Puyallup river system, and is an activity we will do again next year.
The guest speaker for our November club meeting will be Jake Rice, WDFW’s Statewide Salmon and Steelhead Manager. Jake will be specifically addressing the Marine Areas 11 and 13 fisheries, stocks of concern for these marine areas, and how our club can participate in the North of Falcon process. He will also take questions following his presentation. His presentation promises to be informative and interesting.
During our October meeting, we did have a winner in our monthly membership drawing. Through the generosity of John Hager of Southworth Marine, the next membership drawing in November will be for an amount of $150. Be sure to come to the general meeting to be eligible for the drawing.
Our board meetings are held at Ben Dew’s Clubhouse on the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. The address is 6501 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA. All club members are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.
The next club meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 11th, 7 pm at Tower Lanes, located at 6323 6th Ave, Tacoma, WA.
Thank you,
Bill Macaras, president GHPSA
