President’s Message for June 2017

Gig Harbor PSA Presidents Message June 2017

We had a fun meeting in May and everybody learned how to maintain their boat trailers from Andy at King Trailers.

This month will be a little different format for our speakers. We will be holding a round robin tuna fishing talk hosted by two of the best albacore tuna captains from Westport. Capt Mark Coleman with All Rivers and Saltwater Charters and Capt Darrell Johnson with Far Corners Express Sport Fishing.  Both Mark and Darrell run express style fishing trips for tuna and will give us some tips for this upcoming summer tuna season. This will be a must attend meeting and I would expect a full house so come early to reserve your seat.

Mike will be putting on one of his big raffles for this event so grab your tickets from him when you get there.

Doug Dixon is looking for some boats for the Cast for Kids event in Tacoma this summer. If you can volunteer to take some kids fishing get with him at the meeting.

Our derby is schedule for Saturday 12 Aug. mark your calendars. We will need some help manning the Pt. Defiance weigh station and for setup at Bass Pro.  If you want to volunteer to help out your club let me know at the June meeting.

Remember on meeting night you can take advantage of your club membership and shop at Bass Pro and receive a discount. Just in time to stock up for the summer.

Local salmon fishing will open around Tacoma on 1 June. I would expect it to be quite good. The south sound chinook run numbers look good for this summer. We will be covering some chinook techniques for catching salmon in Puget Sound during the July meeting.

There was no winner of the Southworth Marine monthly membership drawing as member # 92 Withrow Reid was not present, so the pot will be increasing to $260 for the June meeting.

Once again the meeting starts at 7PM on 14 June but I encourage members to come early and join us at 6PM in the Uncle Bucks restaurant for dinner and to share fishing reports.

See you all there.
