January President’s Message

Welcome to a new year and some exciting new changes at Gig Harbor Puget Sound Anglers.

First I would like to thank the outgoing leadership staff of Bill Brengman, Bob Watts, Scott Douglas and Thom Names. It was a tough year for them dealing with a quickly changing salmon season but yet hosting a salmon derby on very quick notice.  Thanks for all you guys have done for the club this past year.

Let me introduce our new leadership team this year. Our Vice President is Dave Johnson, Secretary Chris Tremblay, and Treasurer Jeff Zuniga. They’re all very active in the club and we are all now planning a fun and rewarding series of meetings and activities for 2017.

The first big change for 2017 is our general meeting will move to Tacoma Bass Pro starting with our January 2017 meeting. The date of the meeting will also change from the second Tuesday night at 7PM to the 2nd Wednesday night at 7PM.  Tacoma Bass Pro is located at 7905 S. Hosmer Street Tacoma WA. 98408. Just off I-5 exit 129. (253) 671-5600

The meeting will be held in the FishBowl meeting room in the Uncle Bucks Restaurant near the bowling center. As you enter Bass Pro it will be on the left side of the building. I would encourage members to come early and have dinner at Uncle Buck’s Restaurant, they have a great menu or have an adult beverage at the bar and share fishing tales and techniques before each meeting.

Bass Pro also has offered GHPSA members in good standing discount shopping on meeting nights. More on this and how it will work at our January meeting.

Leading off our list of exciting speakers this year will be Greg Mueller. Greg is the President of the Washington Trollers Association. Learn how the commercial guys are so successful catching salmon and how to fish like they do. I have heard Greg speak at other PSA clubs and I guarantee you will learn a lot of fishing tips from his presentation. Don’t miss out on this one!

Following Greg in February will be non other than the host of ESPN The Outdoor Line radio show Tom Nelson. Tom is a fantastic speaker who broadcasts every Saturday morning 6AM-9AM on AM 710.

Our new quarterly winter fishing event will be held on Saturday Jan 14 at Lake Washington. We will have a group outing for cutthroat trout.   Be at Renton’s Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park at dawn we will fish to 1PM. The ramp is located at 1201 Lake Washington Blvd. exit 5 off 405. More details will be presented at the meeting.

You will want to keep an eye on our web page gigharborpsa.org and signup for our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Gig-Harbor-Puget-Sound-Anglers. We will be putting all latest club information and news on outings both of these.

Bring Cash, you will not want to miss out on our all new raffle at the January meeting….TRUST ME ON THIS! Grand prize is a Scotty 2106B HP Electric Downrigger loaded with braided line.

January is also dues month. Bill Long will be helping us out training our new Membership Chairman.  Be ready to renew your $30.00 family membership so you don’t miss out on your Bass Pro shopping discount.

I look forward to seeing all the regular members and we want to welcome back any members who might have dropped out of the club during the past year. If you’re new to the area or are just interested in fishing and want to check out a fun event come by and join us…guests are always welcome at Gig Harbor Puget Sound Angler meetings.

See you all at the new Bass Pro meeting location and get ready to enjoy the all-new 2017 meeting format.
